Hallelujah Soup

Hallelujah Soup for six:

1/3 lb slab beacon or salt pork, or smoked turkey. 4 large onion 4 large potatoes 5 cups hot water or chicken broth 2 tsp. flour 1/3 cup cold water 1 tsp. Salt 1/8 tsp. Coarsely ground black pepper 1/2 tsp. Sugar 1/4 tsp. Powdered sage 1/4 butter

Slice, dice and brown bacon. Peal and slice potatoes and onions. Stir potatoes and onions slices into hot water with bacon or sliced smoked turkey. Boil and let them cook gently for 30 mins or until potatoes are tender. Blend together flour, water,salt, pepper and sugar. Add 1/2 cup soup stock to flour mixture, stir until smooth and add to soup. Bring to boil. Stirring constantly. Serve hot, dotted with sage.
